Okay, the chassis, engine and interior are completed. There is a little coverage problem and the seam shows on the rear of the front seats. I am really kicking myself for not noticing it sooner. I don't think it will show when the chopped top body is on, but as this is going to be in my first contest I am a little concerned about it. I am thinking of draping a Mexican blanket over the back of the seat. What do you guys think?? I'm now at a stopping point to wait for the final clear coat on the body to cure. The weather here is cold and wet so it might take a few days more.

John the car is looking AWESOME. Heres my 2 cents, if you use the cover the judges are gonna think like I do. What is he trying to cover up? Heres what I would do, I would spray the same color into a little container, don't have to be a lot. Take a brush and cover the spot up. I can see where you are talking about. With the glass in and the chopped top, I dought any one will know but you. Or you could use a piece of felt to put over the package shelf. Hope this helps. Eddie. ;D ;D

You're probably right Eddie. I also have been thinking that tinted rear window and rear sides would hide the problem without being obvious. My problem is, How do you tint windows?

I made the Mexican blanket today. It's out of the running. I don't like it in this model. It just doesn't work.

That is a bit of a small problem John. I would try the tip Eddie gave You, with a couple of drops of thinner,(to help coverage), It should turn out okay. Otherwise . . . . Your build looks, OUT OF SIGHT MAN!!!Thank You for sharing Later Russ

Hey thanks Russ. I am feeling pretty good about this one. This is my first contest model and I probably won't win anything, but at least I won't be embarressed about it.

I polished the body and hood with ScratchX this morning and got a coat of clear applied. I do have one concern though; I finally noticed that the windshield and the rear window do not have engraving representing the chrome trim. I wouldn't be bothered by this were it not for the fact this is going to be a contest entry in the box stock catigory and the box art shows chrome trim around both windows. This is my first contest so I really don't know if not having the chrome in place is really important. Maybe some of you guys with contest experience can either sooth my nerves or tell me it's going to blow me out of the water. ;D Thanks, John

Looks great John. If you check the windows they have a little edge sticking up around them. Eddie. ;D ;D

Hey John,
Although your blanket turned out really cool, I'd recommend Eddie's advice. Paint the back of the seat with a thinned matching color...the chopped top will make it more difficult for the judges to see it. Tinting the windows may also work against you.
The blanket doesn't really fit the custom style of the car so that might also work against you in a contest (believe me, I've had a lot of experience with this)...
Also, if you're going to enter it in the "Box Stock" category....check the rules because normally you can only use what comes in the kit....spark plug wires are not usually permitted and may put you in a different category.
I think you have a great looking Merc going there and I really wouldn't be surprised if you placed with it!
The main thing about contests is don't stress yourself by worrying about wining or loosing....just spend your time checking out other models and talking with other modelers...in other words, just have fun man!
