You guys know I started this on the other side. I'll post a couple of early photos. So far the inner and outer walls are completed, but need some more weathering. The windows are complete and installed. The metal roofing has been fabricated and aged in acid. The reason I kind of layed off on this is that I completed one of the garage bay doors. Not complicated, but rather tedious what with keeping it all square. As I was picking it up I managed to drop it. I couldn't see where it landed so I rolled my chair back to look for it. Guess where it was laying-----right under one of the wheels of my chair. Needless to say, gonna have to do that one over again. Anyway, decided to take a break and build some cars. I'll be getting back to the dio later this week.

Finally got back on the diorama recently. So far I have erected the walls and gotten some of the signs on. The signs are plain paper. They have been resized in PhotoShop and then cut to size. The backs of the signs have been very carefully sanded, (thank you Chuck Doan), until the paper is so thin that the ink shows through the back. A 50/50 solution of white glue and water is then brushed on to the back of the sign. The sign, now being very wet and fragile, is applied to the position where wanted. As it is so wet and thin it easily conforms with the wood pretty well replicating a sign that has been painted on. Yesterday I went to a model train show in Sandy, Utah. I went for the express purpose of attempting to find some G-Scale detail pieces for the diorama. For those of you not familiar with model railroading, G-Scale is virtually the same size as 1/24 scale. I was successful in finding these pieces. I got them all for $20.00. Some of the pieces are not usable on this diorama as they are not period correct, but they will be useful later on. All of the pieces must be aged as they currently look too new. I think, though, that when aged they will look pretty good on the diorama. I was particularly happy with the wide whitewalls and the blackwalls as they are the perfect size for front wheels on hot rods. I will try to get somemore done on the dio this afternoon, but it may not happen because IT'S SUPER BOWL SUNDAY!!!!!

Here are a few of the details after weathering. I think they will look a bit better on the dio now.

I decided because the weather is preventing me from working on the base that I would go ahead and install the roof on the building. I have also finally completed the garage doors. They will be installed after the building is mounted on the base. I'm hoping to get the diorama finished by April 1.
